Dagger Fall's militia consists primarily of the farmers and tradesmen of the area. These hardy men and women have seen many a conflict in days gone by. Although they are not soldiers, they are willing to take up arms and defend their town from whatever danger may arrive.

This is a frontier town, where civilization ends at the tip of one's sword. While many of the populace carries their own personal protection, the militia primarily train in the short spear, light and heavy maces, and short bows. All weapons that are easy to make, maintain, and wield. Each member is also issued a dagger with the city seal. These weapons are all owned by the city and are returned to the armory after each rotation save for the dagger, which is kept for life. Each member is also issued a suit of studded leather and a wooden shield, each of which is each members responsibility to repair and maintain.

The city tries to keep at least 75-100 of the citizens active in the militia at any given time, but in times of need up to a quarter of the population, about 600 or so, can be rallied. Given that this is a frontier town, most of the older militia have several levels of commoner if not a level of warrior or two. Those in active duty are on 2 week rotations, so any given person can me expected to serve 3 or 4 times a year. Serving consists of training for 2 hours a day with drills and exercises. The rest of the day is spent patrolling or at stationed at one of several strategic locations. At least once per two week cycle, each group makes a two day sweep of the wilderness around the town itself to clear the area of pests and other dangers.

Living in a mountainous and wooded area, most strategies are geared toward using cover and terrain in the militia's favor. Hit and run tactics and ambushes are favored over open melee. There are several ambush points and traps that the militia know about and will not hesitate to use. There are also hidden cashes of weapons and supplies scattered about the wilderness around the city.
