Thirty four silver headbands allow use of the Earth's planetary defense network. Being one of "the pure" is required. The user visualizes an area of airspace and can target objects with a thought. Then upon another mental command the object above ground level (AGL) is destroyed with a high velocity low altitude rock. Upon impact with the target and the rock, the user suffers minor head pain. This pain can be removed by use of MERCY.

Overall the Headband Defense Network (HDN) is very much like the Home Shopping Network (HSN), though the deals are not as good.
